About Me

My name is Jay Alexander Horton. I am a senior public relations major at the University of Georgia with a Spanish minor and a new media certificate. Through relevant coursework and countless educational experiences, I have continued to hone my skills in strategic communication, graphic design, and event planning and expect to graduate summa cum laude in May 2017.

Over the years, I have worked for DeKalb Medical, Athens First United Methodist Church, the UGA Student Food Pantry, Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center, “New Church” UMC, Give an Hour; The Campaign to Change Direction, and the Tate Student Center. I have created everything from comprehensive communication plans including news releases, feature stories, and social media calendars to projects as simple as designing a poster for an annual Christmas concert.

I have a wide range of skills and am quick to learn new things. According to Gallup Poll’s Strength’s Quest, my top five strengths are input, W.O.O., communication, positivity, and ideation. I am also Google Analytics Certified and in the process of completing my Hubspot Inbound Marketing Certificate. I am proficient in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. I also have a professional working proficiency of the Spanish language which was greatly enhanced during my study abroad experience in Argentina last summer.

Between my freelance work, volunteer hours and the almost two years I’ve spent serving as a part-time event coordinator for the Tate Student Center, I have developed a particular passion for nonprofit, healthcare and higher education communication. Eventually, I hope to work in one of these three fields, however, I am open to wherever life takes me.
